Etymologie
Benannt nach dem natürlichen Verbreitungsgebiet im Pazifik.
Verbreitung
Im westlichen und zentralen Pazifik sehr weit verbreitet, einschließlich der Hawaii-Inseln, des Johnston-Atolls, der Linieninseln, der Pitcairn-Insel, des Oeno-Atolls, der Gambier-Inseln, des Tuamotu-Archipels, der Gesellschaftsinseln, der Austral-Inseln, Rapa, Cookinseln, Phönixinseln, Fidschi, Tonga, Neukaledonien, Loyalitätsinseln, Chesterfieldinseln, Vanuatu, Korallenmeerinseln und -riffe, Marshallinseln, Chuuk, Pohnpei, Yap, Wake Island, Marianen sowie auf den Ogasawara- und Bonininseln von Japan. Typischerweise an äußeren Riffhängen in Tiefen von etwa 5–56 m zu finden.
