Etymologie
Der Artname eine Kombination aus dem lateinischen longus (= lang) und der pinna (= Flosse) in Anspielung auf die sehr charakteristische erste Rückenflosse mit einer langen Flossenbasis, die diese Art besitzt.
Verbreitung
Das Typusmaterial stammt von Taiwan (Cheng-Gong und Da-Xi Fisch Landeplätze von lokalen Fischereigründen), Indonesien (südwestlich von Java und östlich von Lombok) und Papua-Neuguinea (Huon-Golf). Compagno et al. (2005) berichteten diese Spezies vor Puerto Princesa City auf den Philippinen (JPAG 226), die sich geringfügig in der ND2-Sequenz unterscheiden, aber dieses Exemplar wurde für die Erstbeschreibung nicht untersucht. Informationen zum Tiefenvorkommen sind begrenzt verfügbar, da die meisten Exemplare auf Fischlandeplätzen gekauft wurden. Nachweislich gefangen wurden die Art aus Tiefen von 330-460 m in Papua Neu-Guinea.
