Typusfundort: Brasilien, Pará, Terra Santa, Mündung des Igarapé Jamari in den Lago de Terra Santa, rio Nhamundá Becken, 02°00’04"S, 56°31’08"W (Karte).

Etymologie

Das spezifische Epitheton ist eine Anspielung auf die ähnliche Färbung von Orca-Walen (Orcinus orca).

Verbreitung

Centromochlus orca ist bekannt aus der Mündung des Igarapé Jamari, einem Nebenfluss des unteren Rio Nhamundá, im westlichen Pará, und von zwei nahe gelegenen Orten im Lagoa Sete Ilhas stromaufwärts von Nhamundá, an der Grenze zwischen Amazonas und Pará, in einer Region entlang des Übergangs zwischen den Amazonas-Auen und dem Guyana-Schild.
