Benannt nach der Typuslokalität, der Insel Ambon.

Verbreitung

Philippinen und Indonesien bis hin zu Mikronesien, Südjapan, Papua-Neuguinea, den Salomonen, Vanuatu, Fidschi und Neukaledonien.

Gefahren für diese Art: Jegliche Bedrohung von Küstenflüssen, Mangroven und Mündungshabitaten könnte diese Art potenziell beeinträchtigen. Es ist jedoch bekannt, dass sie in geschädigten Lebensräumen (z. B. in Singapur) vorkommt und anscheinend widerstandsfähig ist. In Gebieten, in denen Tilapia (Oreochromis-Arten) vorkommen, ist diese Art nicht anzutreffen, was möglicherweise auf Prädation zurückzuführen ist.
