Etymologie
Benannt nach C. Leo Biden, der an anderer Stelle als „sachkundiger Angler“ bezeichnet wurde, der eines der Exemplare von Bidenichthys capensis sammelte und „dem das Südafrikanische Museum viele Exemplare und viele Informationen zu verdanken hat“; ichthys (= Fisch).
