Etymologie

Von benthos (= die Tiefe), vermutlich auf das Vorkommen von Benthobatis moresbyi in 430 Faden bezogen; batis, griechisch für einen Plattfisch, wird normalerweise auf Rochen angewendet. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
