Etymologie
Von maculatus (= fleckig), bezogen auf "deutlich sichtbare" Flecken entlang der Mittellinie des Körpers. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Indo-West Pazifik: nördlich von Madagaskar und Japan; auch vor Australien.
