Typusfundort: 12 Meilen (= 20 km) west-südwestlich von Cape Runaway, Bay of Plenty, Neuseeland, Tiefe 66-94 Faden.
Etymologie
Asperrimus (= rau), bezogen auf die Haut auf der Rückenoberfläche, die "überall mit eng gesetzten Stacheln bedeckt" ist. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Südwest-Pazifik: endemisch um Neuseeland.

Status: Stand 23.02.2019: DD Data Deficient (ungenügende Datengrundlage)
Grund für die Gefährdungseinstufung: Der Longtailed Skate wird unabsichtlich in benthischen Tiefsee-Schleppnetzfischereien gefischt (Francis 2015). In einer qualitativen Risikobewertung für die neuseeländischen Chondrichthyane wurde diese Art mit geringem bis mäßigem Risiko durch die kommerzielle Fischerei eingestuft (Ford et al. 2015).
