Grund für die Gefährdungseinstufung: Argyrops filamentosus ist eine Schlüsselart, die in Réunion einen erheblichen Rückgang erlitten hat und extrem empfindlich auf menschliche Aktivitäten reagiert. Die Bedrohung dieser Art in La Réunion umfasst gezielte Maßnahmen durch kommerzielle Fischerei, Lebensraumverlust und Eutrophierung / Verschmutzung (Fricke et al. 2009). Es ist wahrscheinlich, dass ähnliche Bedrohungen diese Art in anderen Teilen ihres Verbreitungsgebiets beeinflussen können.
