Etymologie
Gelatinosus (= gelatineartig oder geleeartig), bezieht sich auf "dünne, schuppenlose, lockere" Haut und bildet einen "großen losen Beutel" am oberen Vorderkörper, "der wahrscheinlich während des Lebens mit Schleim gefüllt und aufgeweitet wird". (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Ostatlantik: ein Exemplar von den Azoren und aus dem Süden der Kanarischen Inseln. Südwestpazifik: In Australien nur von der Typuslokalität vor Cape York, Queensland bekannt. Westlicher Indischer Ozean: vor Natal, Südafrika. Nur wenige Exemplare aus tropischen Gebieten aller Ozeane.
