Etymologie

Kombiniert aus anisos (= ungleich) und tremus (= Öffnung oder Loch), vermutlich bezogen auf ein Paar eng anliegender, aber morphologisch unterschiedlicher Nasenlöcher auf jeder Seite des Kopfes von Anisotremus virginicus: Der hintere Nasenflügel ist klein und oval und der hintere Rand des vorderen Nasenflügels ist als Lappen verlängert.
