Typusfundort: Karaot-Quelle am Ufer des Eğirdir-Sees, etwa 4 km nördlich von Yenice, Provinz Isparta, Türkei, 38°08.094'N, 30° 54.443'E (Karte).
Etymologie
Etymologie nicht erklärt, wahrscheinlich von Iconium, dem alten Namen der Provinz Konya, Zentralanatolien, Türkei, wo dieser Killifisch vorkommt (auch in Nebenflüssen der Seen Eğirdir und Kovada, Provinz Isparta) [Wildekamp (1993) und andere liegen wahrscheinlich falsch mit der Annahme der Bedeutung dieses Namens "wie eine Ikone, ein byzantinisches Gemälde" sie beziehen es auf das Farbmuster.].
