Etymologie

Sordidus (= schmutzig), vermutlich in Anlehnung an die Färbung, die als bräunlich-grau („fusco-cinereus“) bezeichnet wurde. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Verbreitung

Rotes Meer; Indo-Westpazifik: Ostafrika, Sokotra, Seychellen, Komoren, Madagaskar und Maskarenen östlich bis zu den Hawaii-Inseln, Wake Atoll und Pitcairn-Gruppe, nördlich bis Südkorea und Zentraljapan, südlich bis Rottnest Island (Westaustralien), Montague Island (New South Wales, Australien), Lord Howe Island, Tonga und Rapa.
